This week is RA Awareness Week in the UK. The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) has released a video to promote it. I really like it – the actress portrays really accurately what an arthritis flare feels like. It shows the frustration of being unable to hold your shopping bags and the pain of simply buttering your toast. Well worth a watch in my opinion!
Usually, I don’t go in for these disease awareness things (probably my frightfully English side feeling like it might be seen as making a fuss!), but RA is so misunderstood that it feels important to raise awareness. It’s not just achey joints – it’s a serious autoimmune condition that can affect your heart, lungs, eyes and many other parts of your body. Thankfully my RA is much better at the moment, but I have symptoms every day that remind me I have the illness.
If you want to find out more, I would highly recommend the NRAS website, which is very informative.
